Katowice, a city with a population of 321,000 is the centre of a conurbation of almost 3-million people and ranks as one of the most important economic centres in Poland.

Katowice's exceptional status as a dynamically developing city with excellent prospects results from a number of factors:

- the city lies in the area of the most absorbent consumer and investment market in Central Europe;

- among the organizations operating in the city are numerous economic, scientific, social and cultural institutions that maintain broad contacts and co-operation with foreign countries;

- Katowice is centrally located in the Katowice Special Economic Zone;

- in connection with the Katowice Special Economic Zone, the city serves as the strategic centre for financial transactions and the multidirectional flow of funds;

- Katowice is distinguished by a particularly high percentage of well-educated professionals and a deeply rooted tradition of doing one's best at work;

- the population maintains a high level of economic activity, as reflected in the local unemployment rate, which ranks as one of the lowest in Poland (in the end of 2005 – 7%).

The dynamically advancing city needs enormous capital outlays to implement investment projects in the realm of social and urban infrastructure development. The local authorities are seeking domestic and foreign investors to bring these projects into fruition.
