Jastrzębie Zdrój lies at the foot of the Beskids in the southern part of Śląskie Voivodeship (Upper Silesia). The city has a very good technical infrastructure and municipal transport system.

In the immediate vicinity of Jastrzębie Zdrój, the planned A1 motorway will have its first junction on the Polish side of the border. Therefore, the most important investment project recorded in the 2000-2015 Development Strategy for Śląskie Voivodeship is to build the Main South Road. The route will connect the motorway with national roads running east and west across the southern part of the voivodeship.

The administrative area of the city includes parts of the Katowice Special Economic Zone, which means that investors can take advantage of many incentives and concessions. The year 2000 marked the establishment of the Jastrzębie Economic Activity Zone, which includes the area of the liquidated Moszczenica coal mine.

The city's considerable economic and social potential, combined with its friendly economic policy, provides convenient conditions for investment. The local authorities set much store by pro-ecological investment projects - the city has one of the most modern sewage treatment plants in Poland and a municipal refuse dump.
